Imagery Meditation is a form of meditation that allows for freedom of the imagination.

Many different types of meditations can be performed by using imagery meditation. This can be as elementary as imagining a color, to visualizing a better life, to connecting with the Divine. It's all up to one's imagination and what one hopes to achieve with visualization.

Meditating On A Color

Pick a color that appeals to you. Begin meditating while focusing on that color. Try to allow all of your senses to experience the color. Experiment to see if it is possible to not only see the color, but to hear it, feel it, smell it, and taste it. Try to experience the color as completely as possible.

What type of emotions does this color evoke? Finding a color that helps relax an individual can be very beneficial when meditating.

Visualizing A Goal With Meditation

This type of imagery meditation is to picture something in the mind that an individual wants. The idea of this meditation is intention. For example, let's say a person is working at a job that will lead to nowhere. While meditating, this individual looks to the future and sees himself at a different job with a much brighter future.

The thought of this type of meditation is that by believing this will happen and putting this intent out to the universe, that the positive energy involved in this style of meditation will help an individual achieve their goal.

Imagery Meditation And Religion

One of the oldest forms of meditation is meditating on the Divine. For Christians, this could mean meditating while visualizing a cross or Jesus. For those of the Jewish faith, imagery meditation can be on the Star of David, while Native Americans might focus on the Great Spirit.

All religions have some kind of God, Goddess, higher power, or religious figure that can be used for religious meditation. The main idea of this type of meditation is to focus on the chosen higher power to feel a deeper religious or spiritual connection.

Imagery Meditation And Relaxation

One of the most creative and relaxing forms of meditation is the use of one's imagination to create a peaceful place within one's mind. An example of this would be to envision oneself on a quiet beach at sunset.

An Example Of Imagery Meditation

Take a moment to feel the warm sand between your toes. Look at the gentle, crystal blue water. Listen to the gentle sounds of the waves as they come in while smelling the fresh, clean air. Taste the freshness of this air. Try to totally submerge yourself into the picture you have created within your mind to ultimately create a place of total relaxation.

Imagery meditation can take on many forms, as shown above. It's all up to one's imagination and personal goal.
