When Kundalini Shakti unites with Shiva at his abode at the Sahasrara, the thousand petalled lotus unfolds.
There are seven chakras, or vortexes of energy, in the subtle body, located along the spine. Each of them has different functions and certain attributes assigned to them. The Sahasrara is the seventh chakra located at the crown of the head, depicted with a thousand petals. Its physical counterpart is the human brain. As you may recall from the previous article of the kundalini shakti, the creative life energy, lies dormant at the first plexus, the Muladhara, at the base of the spine. When she is awakened through meditation practices, she begins her journey up the spinal column, purifying and stabilizing all the chakras, until one day she reaches Lord Shiva, who resides at the Sahasrara. With the Divine Union of Shiva and Shakti, the thousand petals bloom and rejoice. The yogi's samskaras (imprints and tendencies) are eliminated. He or she is liberated. Self-realization, the goal of all spiritual practices, is achieved. Nirvana consciousness becomes the yogi's permanent state. The Shiva Shakti UnionThe preferred and most common union of Shiva and Shakti, energy and consciousness, occurs over a period of time in spurts, rather than one large "Big Bang" release, which can can be detrimental and shocking to the system. Gradual spurts over a period of time allow the yogi to adjust to the enormous changes taking place. Other phenomena include pulsations at the cranium, a cobra head (the head feels large) and cool or cold vibrations at the fontanel (the soft spot at the top of the head). Seventh Chakra ImbalancesEveryone's experience will differ, but here are some of the common traits of someone with a Sahasrara imbalance:
The Benefits of SahasraraThe yogi at this stage creates miracles, but does not display them. More importantly, he or she lives in perpetual bliss affecting everyone they come in contact with. Here are a few of their traits:
The Sahasrara has long been identified as the epicenter of the soul. It opens the doorway to other dimensions. The yogi is neither affected by pain or pleasure, he or she can adapt to any circumstance with no effort, being in perfect balance. A word of warning, it is possible to open your chakras artificially, through drugs or an accident and momentary excitement and pleasure may be experienced. However, premature openings involve great risk. When the body is not prepared, you can overload the circuits. You can literally blow your mental circuits; as we say, “blow the mind.” The damage could be permanent and the bliss temporary. This entire process is best when Shakti is allowed to unfold naturally rather than through artificial means. The recommended procedure to awaken the chakras is under the guidance of a self-realized master, through meditation, tantra and other yogic practices.
