The Vishuddha, the fifth chakra in the Kundalini system is located at the throat. It involves speech and hearing.

A person who has a healthy fifth chakra finds it easy to communicate his or her ideas to others. He or she speaks well, is expressive and truthful.

Vishuddha involves the reciprocation of speech and sound, because all speech is in vain unless there is someone hearing and listening to what you have to say.

Vibratory energy is the domain of speech and sound so someone who has a powerful fifth chakra may be an inspiring speaker, a composer or singer. Beethoven composed masterpieces long after he had lost his hearing. Martin Luther King inspired masses with the power of his voice and his message.

President Obama is said to be one of greatest orators in recent history. He has an innate ability to reach out to his audience. His preparation, content and presentation gets his message across, whether through his prepared speeches or impromptu talks.

The Power of Vishuddha

The Vishuddha has a power beyond ordinary hearing or speaking. It is communication at levels of speaking, listening and understanding beyond the ordinary.

A person centered in the fifth chakra is articulate in vocalizing “truth.” At this level, the vocalization of truth is derived not from the mind or intellect, but through the inspired source of Kundalini. When this source of power comes from the purified Kundalini, it becomes impossible to fabricate stories or untruths, which is the result of fifth chakra imbalance.

There is a huge responsibility that comes with the establishment of Vishuddha. Vishuddha can be both inspiring and damaging, so one has to be very selective of his or her words. When kundalini shakti finally takes residence in the fifth chakra, the gift of profound influence is bestowed upon the aspirant.

Unfortunately, this influence has been used inappropriately as well, as has been seen in the instance of many religious and political leaders who are so dominated by their own ego, that they become false messengers leading followers astray.

The enlightened Masters and gurus who have direct access to communication with the Supreme Consciousness, however, carry a very powerful message that goes beyond their words because their message comes directly from the source.

Facts About Vishuddha

There is a “knot” called the Vishnu Granthi, located at the Vishuddha to prevent premature openings and access to the next two chakras. Although one may experience brief “glimpses” of the workings of Visshuda, complete kundalini awakening here is not likely until an aspirant has done all the preliminary work. The knot must be slowly untied to allow the shakti to flow unimpeded.

A few possible manifestations of the Vishuddha include neck pains, shoulder aches, ringing in the ears, hearing music and sounds, hoarseness or sore throat. It is always wise to rule out any health problems before concluding that anything is kundalini related. As always, when in doubt, please see a qualified health practitioner.

Exercises for the Fifth Chakra

  • Head rolls – to ease tightness in the neck, rotate the head slowly from right, to back, to the left and front. Repeat a few times. Then rotate in the opposite direction.
  • Shoulder – to release the tension in the shoulders, lift both shoulders up to the ears. Hold for a few seconds, feel the tension and drop the shoulders back down. Repeat. Now lift just the right shoulder to the right ear and drop. Repeat with the left shoulder. Roll the right shoulder the back. Roll to the front. Repeat with the left shoulder. Roll both shoulders to the back, then roll to the front.
  • Meditation – meditate on the mantra “Om” to connect yourself to the Divine. Chant aloud a few times, gradually reducing the volume. “Om” on the in-breath, “Om” on the out-breath. “Om” is the Divine Source of life, the highest mantra, the eternal word.

The Vishuddha originates as speech and sound on the physical level. Void of ego, it can evolve to the highest vibrations where extraordinary mystical phenomena, such as telepathy and clairaudience sets in.

Expression of truth becomes the only reality when the source of knowledge is inspired by kundalini shakti.
